what is Labiaplasty?
Although it's not talked about a lot, some women are frustrated about the appearance of their vaginal lips, which can cause them to feel less confident while also causing discomfort or irritation. Board-certified plastic surgeon and internationally recognized expert in plastic surgery Dr. Jaime S. Schwartz wants to help women feel more comfortable and attractive with surgical vaginal rejuvenation to improve the size and shape of the labia. The labia (the external lips of the vaginal area) can look stretched or have hanging skin caused by genetics, pregnancy, childbirth, or physical trauma. A labiaplasty surgically reduces the size of the labia majora and/or minora for a more normal look. This could eliminate irritation and discomfort while increasing sexual pleasure and confidence. If you've been considering labiaplasty in Beverly Hills, CA, contact our team for a private consultation at our Beverly Hills practice to learn more about the benefits of labiaplasty and find out if you may be a candidate for the surgery.

Am I A Candidate for labiaplasty?
Labiaplasty surgery in Beverly Hills, CA, and Dubai at Jamie S. Schwarts MD FACS, reduces, resizes, and reshapes the labia minora (inner lips) and/or labia majora (outer lips). A labiaplasty can help women who are concerned about the size and shape of their vaginal area, which can be enlarged because of childbirth, genetics, or trauma. Abnormal vaginal lips may cause discomfort, pain, irritation, or itching during activities like sex and exercise. A labiaplasty may also be beneficial if you don't wear revealing clothing (including swimsuits, leggings, or yoga pants) because of the appearance of your vaginal area. While a labiaplasty should not affect pregnancy, Dr. Schwartz recommends you wait until you are finished having children to prevent changing your results.

How is labiaplasty performed?
After performing hundreds of labiaplasties, Dr. Schwartz has developed an exclusively comfortable, in-office procedure so that women do not have to miss time off from work or endure a long recovery period. He prefers to perform labiaplasty in the office (although it can be combined with other procedures in the operating room) since it allows both of you to work together as a team to tailor the procedure to you individually. Most labiaplasty procedures can be performed with local anesthesia — so you may drive yourself to and from our office. If the procedure is more extensive, you may need general anesthesia at a nearby surgical facility, which will mean you need a responsible person to pick you up following your procedure. Dr. Schwartz can talk about your options and more during your consultation — so you may make any needed arrangements before your procedure. A labiaplasty is generally performed with the trim technique that removes extra tissue. Then the remaining skin is sutured together. Another technique is the wedge procedure that removes a pie-shaped piece of skin and excess folds from the clitoris before stitching the skin closed.
There is no worry about “waking up after” and then seeing the results. He will show you your beautiful results as soon as the procedure is over. The whole process usually takes less than an hour to reshape, reduce, and resize the labia.
how long is recovery after labiaplasty?
Most women don't require pain medication after the procedure, while some will take over-the-counter pain relievers for a few days. While you can go back to work the next day, Dr. Schwartz asks that you avoid stretching or rubbing the area with tight clothing for two weeks. After about two weeks, most women are allowed to start engaging in sexual intercourse using lubrication. The labial skin is very similar to your mouth, meaning it heals very quickly, often by the next day. Although the labia heals very quickly externally, it still needs a few weeks to develop more strength. Overall, using the Schwartz Rapid Recuperation™ Technique after labiaplasty allows women to gain self-confidence and diminish labial discomfort without a long recovery period.

Should I choose Jaime S Schwartz MD FACS or an OB/GYN for my procedure?
When researching surgical vaginal rejuvenation, you may discover that a large majority of OB/GYNs (obstetricians and gynecologists) perform labiaplasty. While most OB/GYNs can perform a labiaplasty, they may not be your best choice. An OB/GYN will be able to surgically remove excess skin from your labia, but our team here at Dr. Schwartz's offices will focus on the aesthetics as well. We ensure minimal scarring and that the final symmetry, contour, and color are natural in both appearance and feel.
Will vaginal rejuvenation surgery cause insensitivity?
As with any surgery, you may have short-term numbness in your vaginal area after the procedure is completed. This is usually temporary as the vaginal tissue and skin recover and heals over time as new cells adapt to the changes. For those concerned about sexual sensitivity, it is important to realize that labia rejuvenation addresses the vaginal lips and will not affect the clitoris. A skilled team like ours here at Dr. Schwartz's practice, with many years of experience in cosmetic vaginal surgery, will avoid the clitoris so that a loss of sensitivity does not occur.
What is the recovery process like after a labiaplasty?
Prior to your surgery, Dr. Schwartz or a member of his team will go over what you should expect following your labiaplasty, along with advice on how to speed up your recovery. You should expect to have some swelling and bruising in your vaginal area along with some discomfort immediately after your surgery. You should plan to stay home for at least 5 – 7 days before returning to non-strenuous activities. Our team will evaluate your healing during your check-up appointments and let you know when you are able to resume sexual activity and exercise.
